Skip-Bo and Building Habits vs Routines in 2025

In 2024, I made regular exercise a priority—and it paid off. I logged about 175 workouts, but I’ll admit, the first 75 came with a side of guilt for carving out the time. Now, it’s clear those workouts have been crucial for managing stress and improving my overall health.

It reminded me of the quote: "If you don't make time for your wellness, you’ll be forced to make time for your illness."

LEADERSHIP

This year, I’m focusing on a few new habits:

  • Walking breaks – A simple way to counteract long hours at my desk.

  • Creative time – Giving myself permission to create things that don’t have deadlines.

  • Keynote outreach – Reaching out to new organizations and conferences (if you know someone, connect me—wink).

Here’s an interesting article from the Harvard Business Review on the difference between habits and routines. Habits feel automatic, like brushing your teeth. Routines, on the other hand, require intention and effort, like waking up early to exercise. The key to turning routines into habits? Start small, anticipate challenges, and stay consistent.

Geesh – that hit home for me!

LIFE

On the life front, here’s a Joy Idea for 2025: My family recently played Skip-Bo (a childhood favorite), and it was a blast. I’m aiming to add a monthly game night to our routine—low effort, high connection.

What habits or routines are you prioritizing in 2025? Here’s to making them stick!
